ABOUT
"As members of the TONE Forest Recreation Association we have found a home away from home.
The TONE Forest is a place we go again and again to spend time with family and friends and just get away from it all."

A unique membership organization committed to sustainable forestry and recreational land use
The TONE Forest is a special place in Southwestern New Hampshire, where members leave behind the hustle and bustle of their everyday lives to rest, relax, and recharge among more than 3,200 acres of woodlands, ponds, and streams. Gather with family and friends to play games, toast marshmallows, fish, read, shoot, and explore the out-of-doors. Return again and again to make life-long memories and strengthen family bonds.
The TONE Forest Recreation Association is a group of families who have found a unique way to freely enjoy and preserve the TONE Forest, in some cases for four generations!

Our vision
Over sixty years ago, Timber Owners of New England (TONE) and the TONE Forest Recreation Association were conceived and formed by a small group of prescient businessmen as an investment and means of preserving a large tract of pristine woodlands in southwestern New Hampshire. TONE owns and manages the TONE Forest, harvesting and selling timber under a managed forestry and wildlife habitat improvement plan. The TONE Forest Recreation Association is a nonprofit membership organization that leases the recreational use of the land and facilities from TONE. These organizations have worked in partnership for over 70 years to preserve the land in a sustainable way.
For TONE Forest Recreation Association members, our vision is to engage people in the enjoyment of nature through outdoor recreational activities. The TONE Forest is a place to get away from our increasingly demanding world to enjoy quiet walks in the woods. It is a place to enjoy boisterous activities watching kids play in private ponds and on sledding hills. It offers relaxing summer evenings on porches and in front of winter fireplaces, and opportunities to teach kids self reliance outdoors and in the woods as they explore on their own. It is a place to gather for weekends with friends, family, relatives and grandchildren. It is a place to learn to fly fish, bass fish, row, canoe, mountain bike, snowshoe, cross country ski, or hike with maps and a compass. It is an association of like-minded people sharing a love of the land and common commitment to sustainable forestry and recreational land use. And more than anything else, the TONE Forest Recreation Association improves the quality of life of our members, their families and friends.
Our land stewardship
Since its inception, the TONE Forest Recreation Association's mission has been to offer a broad range of outdoor recreational activities and accommodations to its members, acting in partnership with TONE to protect this magnificent working forest. These founding principles continue to guide the organization today. The woodlands have many significant natural features and habitats – from a 200 year old hemlock forest to an herbaceous seepage marsh. At over 3,000 acres, the property is one of the few large blocks of contiguous undeveloped land in the Monadnock region and has been identified by The Nature Conservancy as one “of exceptional habitat significance from a watershed perspective." |
